2. Cookies

When you visit the Portal it can be necessary to store and/or read certain data from your device by using technologies such as cookies.

2.1 Technical or functional cookies

Some cookies ensure that certain parts of the Portal work properly and that your user preferences remain known. The Portal is a password-protected application, so these cookies also keep you signed in, protect your forms against cross-site request forgery, hold your session state on our servers, and route your requests to the correct server instance. We may place these cookies without your consent.

2.2 Statistics cookies

We use statistics cookies to optimize the Portal experience for our users. With these statistics cookies we get insights into the usage and performance of the Portal, including aggregated page views, session recordings and heat maps, and page load timings. These cookies are only placed after you consent.

2.3 Marketing/tracking cookies

The Portal does not use advertising or cross-site marketing cookies. We do not run an advertising pixel, a remarketing tag or a social media tracking script inside the Portal. The only third-party media embedded in the Portal is a welcome video, which is served by YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode and does not place cookies unless you press play.

2.4 Social media

We have not embedded any social network share, like or follow content in the Portal.

3. Placed cookies

Most of these technologies have a function, a purpose, and an expiration period.

  • A function is a particular task a technology has, for example to "store certain data."
  • Purpose is the "why" behind the function. Maybe the data is stored because it is needed for statistics.
  • The expiration period shows the length of the period the used technology can store or read certain data.

3.3 Marketing

YouTube

The Portal home page can open a short welcome video hosted on YouTube. It is embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) mode, so Google does not place cookies on your device unless you play the video. If you play it, YouTube may place cookies such as VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE (6 months), YSC (session) and PREF (8 months) to remember playback preferences and measure viewing. YouTube Privacy Statement

4. Browser and device based consent

When you visit the Portal for the first time, we show you a banner with an explanation about cookies, where you can either accept or decline the statistics cookies. You have the right to opt out and to object against the further use of non-functional cookies. Your choice is stored in the gsu_cookie_consent cookie on the device and browser you are using, so you will be asked again on a different device or browser, or after you clear your cookies.

4.1 Manage your opt-out preferences

Required for sign-in, security and session handling. These cannot be switched off without making the Portal unusable.

Google Analytics, Hotjar and Pingdom. Saving with this switched off deletes the cookies these services have already placed and reloads the page so their scripts stop running.

You have not made a choice yet. Statistics cookies stay blocked until you save your preferences below.

Saving records your choice on this device so the cookie banner stops asking. Withdrawing clears your stored choice and the statistics cookies, and shows you the cookie banner again.

5. Enabling/disabling and deleting cookies

You can use your internet browser to automatically or manually delete cookies. You can also specify that certain cookies may not be placed. Another option is to change the settings of your internet browser so that you receive a message each time a cookie is placed. For more information about these options, please refer to the instructions in the Help section of your browser.

Please note that the Portal will not work if you disable all cookies: you will not be able to sign in or submit any form. If you delete the cookies in your browser, they will be placed again after your consent when you visit the Portal again.

  • you may submit a request for access to the data we process about you;
  • you may object to the processing;
  • you may request an overview, in a commonly used format, of the data we process about you;
